Emily Crabtree's Photos - The Spaces of Memory

Our personal memories internally connect us with the past and structure our perception of the present in complex and beautiful ways. The flux of memory allows the past to be a vague mix of what is real and the imagined thus one is able to invent reality through selective remembering. My work is the creation of spaces inspired by memories. Through non-representational abstraction I am recording the time spent processing painful memories. Pulling out moments of bliss and clarity in order to create altered perception of the past leading to a new awareness of time in the present. This body of work represents my investigation of memory through painting, drawing and installation.
